Keynote Address

David Weild

David Weild

Founder & CEO, Weild & Co.
Head, Capital Markets Thought Leadership, Grant Thornton
Former Vice Chairman of NASDAQ

David is Founder, Chairman and CEO of Weild & Co. and heads Capital Markets Thought Leadership at Grant Thornton. The studies that he and Ed Kim co-authored documented the long-term decline in equity capital formation in the United States and provided the core arguments that gave rise to the JOBS Act and many of the specific provisions contained in the JOBS Act. For these reasons, he has been called “The father of the JOBS Act.” David has also called for a “JOBS Act 2” or “JOBS Act Part 2” - language increasingly heard on Capitol Hill. Weild and Kim’s written work was cited by a broad range of legislators, regulators, academics, the IPO Task Force and the White House Jobs Council leading up to the JOBS Act. The Crowdfunding Professional Association (“CfPA”) is a nonprofit 501(c)(6) trade organization that was established shortly after President Obama signed the Jumpstart Our Business Startup Act (“JOBS Act”) into law on April 5, 2012. Through voluntarily taking an active role in Title II and III of the JOBS Act, CfPA is helping to unleash capital formation for startup and emerging companies while fostering the private placement marketplace for non-accredited investors. The CfPA is dedicated to representing the crowdfunding industry and supporting the Securities and Exchange Commission (“SEC”) and Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (“FINRA”) during the rule making period while providing the industry with education, a professional network and the tools necessary to cultivate and balance a healthy ecosystem that will accelerate capital formation and ensure investor protection whenever possible.

CfPA hopes that you are inspired, not just by our vision, but by the crowdfunding movement that will translate ideas into action. The crowdfunding community distinguishes itself by offering a positive vision of a better way of raising capital and spurring job creation. Startup and emerging companies have the opportunity to create more jobs and improve the quality of life in our society by offering new resources to raise capital. As the crowd investing industry matures for equity and debt based investments, we believe it will become an increasingly powerful change agent. By supporting the SEC as it defines the regulations to ensure investor safety, we are able to actively drive the capital markets. Over 800 Members have joined our community, encouraging all companies, investors, third party service providers and students to create a society that will become the blueprint for a new way of life – one that is more equitable, tolerant and entrepreneurial. As a result of our collective success, individuals and communities will enjoy greater economic opportunity.

This very special event will be the first of its kind to provide laser sharp focus on the global impact of all aspects of the crowd investing industry. We will explore and debate major topics affecting the growth and sustainability of our industry including:

The Impact on Jobs Creation and Capital Formation

The Crowdfunding Ecosystem and Innovative Technologies

Crowd Investing and Wall Street

The Legal and Regulatory Environment

International Insights

The Importance of Social Media and Public Relations

The Link Between Rewards-Based and Securities-Based Crowdfunding

Venture Capital, Angels and the Crowd
